English: Altarpieces are architectured altarpieces (imitating, in general, the facade of an ancient temple) overhanging or encompassing an altar decoration generally matching (when it is original), that is to say, by building a dedicated location at this altar; the altarpiece can be presented alone when the matching altar has disappeared. They present one or more niches sheltering painting, statue, or relief. Generally from the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries.
Français : Altarpieces sont retables architecturés (imitant, en général, la façade d'un temple antique) surplombant ou englobant un autel de décoration généralement assortie (lorsqu'il est d'origine), c'est-à-dire ménageant par construction un emplacement dédié à cet autel; le retable pouvant être présenté seul lorsque l'autel assorti a disparu. Ils présentent une ou plusieurs niches abritant tableau, statue, ou relief. En général du XVIIe et du XVIIIe siècles.
