English: Allen Christian Redwood (1844-1922), a Civil War soldier artist, enlisted with Co. C, 55th Virginia Infantry and served as the unit's Sergeant-major in 1863. He was wounded at Mechanicsville, captured at Second Manassas, exchanged, then wounded again at Chancellorsville and Gettysburg. He subsequently then transfered to Co. C, 1st Maryland Cavalry and served on the staffs of Generals Lunsford Lomax and Henry Heth. His drawings and sketches are featured throughout the four-volume set, Battles and Leaders of the Civil War (American Civil War Museum).
