English: Design office designations are assigned to aircraft models developed in the Soviet Union since December 9, 1940, and the practice has continued in Russia since the breakup of the Soviet Union. Designations consist of an assigned abbreviation for the design office followed by a sequential number for each aircraft design. Official designations do not include the full name of the constructor (i.e. Yakovlev Yak-15), only the abbreviation and sequence number (i.e. Yak-15).
