Italiano: Acheropita o achiropita, da "ἀ- (a-)" privativo, "χείρ (chèir)" (mano) e "ποιείν (poièin)" (creare), è una parola di origine greca, il cui significato è "non fatto da mano umana". Essa viene utilizzata per indicare quelle immagini sacre alle quali la tradizione attribuisce un'origine miracolosa: queste immagini, cioè, non sarebbero opera di un artista, ma sarebbero "apparse" da sole per intervento divino. Esse sono perciò da considerarsi anche reliquie.
English Acheropita or achiropita, is a word of Greek origin, whose meaning is "not made by human hand ". It is used to indicate sacred images to which tradition attributes a miraculous origin: these images, that is, would not be the work of an artist, but would have "appeared" by themselves by divine intervention. They are therefore also to be considered relics.
