- The colors yellow and green are those of armored organizations, the original designation of the unit.
- The black annulet represents a link of chain mail and is symbolic of Armor. It may also be taken as the letter "O" standing for "Ozark," the location where the unit was organized.
- The war club interlaced with the annulet represents World War II combat service in the Central Pacific.
- Crest: The crest is that of the Alabama Army National Guard.

[edit]- The coat of arms was originally approved for the 131st Tank Battalion, Alabama National Guard on 1951-08-29.
- It was redesignated for the 131st Armor Regiment, Alabama Army National Guard on 1960-12-13.
- The insignia was redesignated effective 2008-09-01, for the 131st Cavalry Regiment with the symbolism updated.

[edit]- A Gold color metal and enamel device 1⅛ inches (2.86 cm) in height overall consisting of a shield blazoned: Or, a Polynesian war club bendwise Vert, garnished of the field interlaced with an annulet Sable.
- Attached below the shield a Gold scroll inscribed "TAUGHT TO LEAD" in Black letters.

- The flag has a solid background with an embroidered American eagle displayed centered thereon.
- In its right talon the eagle holds an olive branch; in its left talon, a bundle of 13 arrows, all in proper colors.
- Its beak grasps a scroll inscribed with the unit motto.
- Below the eagle is a scroll inscribed with the designation of the organization.
- On the eagle’s breast is embroidered the shield of the coat of arms and the crest is above the eagle’s head. For those organizations with an approved badge in lieu of a coat of arms, the eagle’s breast is feathered and the badge is located above the eagle’s head.
