This mosque near the castle hill used to be well-restored. But it was heavily damaged during the 6 february 2023 earthquake. Before that, the follwoing was valid: "The notice at the mosque indicates: the date of construction of the mosque is unknown. The epigraph on the portal shows that the Şirvani Mosque was repaired in 1681 by Seyyid Mehmet Şirvani. During this renovation a water-tank with a fountain was added to the courtyard and toilets placed under the ground floor. It is also called “mosque with minaret galleries” by the locals. The location near the castle indicates it must be one of the oldest buildings of Gaziantep. It is thought to have been built originally as a Mevlevi “semahane” (a building where the dervishes perform their whirling spiritual dance). It was built in the 14th or 15th century during the Dulkadirli or Mamluk periods. There are twin cusped arches on the portal. The mosque is almost square. The minaret is the first in the city with two galleries. They can be reached via two separate spiral staircases."
