Bonifatius

Deutsch: Der Heilige Bonifatius, Winfried (Winfrid, Wynfreth, in latinisierter Form Winfridia) (* 672/673 in Crediton, Grafschaft Exeter, Wessex, heute Devonshire im Südwesten Englands – † 5. Juni 754 bei Dokkum in Friesland), wird „Apostel der Deutschen“ genannt und war der wohl wichtigste Missionar und Kirchenreformer im Frankenreich. Außerdem war er Erzbischof in Mainz.

English: Saint Boniface (c. 672 - 5 June 754), the Apostle of the Germans, born Winfrid or Wynfrith at Crediton in Devon, England, was the most important missionary and church reformer in the Frankish Empire during the 8th century. In addition, he was archbishop in Mainz. He was martyred near Dokkum in Frisia.
