Minerva was the Roman virgin goddess of warriors, poetry, medicine, wisdom, commerce, weaving, crafts, and the inventor of music. She is often depicted with an owl, her sacred creature and, through this connection, a symbol of wisdom.
She is thought to share a common root with Athena, comming to Italy (it is thought) via Etruria. For this reason depictions of both Athena and Minerva often show many similarities.
This is a category for exclusive Ancient Roman depictions of the Roman goddess Minerva. For her images in post-antique media please use Category:Athena and its sub-categories, such as Category:Paintings of Athena and Category:Athena in post-antique statues.
