[edit]The animation gives the (wrong) impression that the tension is somewhat proportional to the distance between the string and the coil. However, the physical behavior is to have a tension proportional to the speed of the string relative to the coil. I could be useful to modify the image accordingly. Maybe even, replacing the "voltmeter" indication by an oscilloscope might be clearer. What does the image author think of this? Thanks. --YannickPatois 14:16, 25 February 2008 (UTC)
- C'est juste, enfin presque je crois :) After reading more stuff about the interaction between the string and the coil, I think that I must change this picture. First, the string moves from side to side, not in the vertical plane. However, the amplitude of the wave is somehow related to the distance between the string and the pickup. If your string is very close to the pickup, the volume will be increased (but damping effects appear). A far string will decrease the overall volume, this phenomenon happens for example on pickups with small plots: when you bend a string, the volume may decrease (the string is between two plots -> amplitude decreases). You are right, the -shape- (frequency) of the tension is related to the speed of the motion, the amplitude is related to the distance (well, to the field shape). Do you agree ?
