Provenance Arnold Engel

This letter is ex collection Arnold Engel so a brief note says. I did not mention this in the description, since i was not able to verify it. Arnold Engel, an APS member for 35 years, passed away in 2014. He was a well known person in the Philadelphia area, specializing in Germany and the Baltic states, especially Latvian postal history. Awards:

  • 2008 Silver: 'Airmail of Latvia 1921-1940' at the Philadelphia National Stamp Exhibition September 5-7, 2008.
  • 1986 Gold: 'Königsberg Censor Mail 1939-1944'
  • 1965 Gold: 'Postal History of Livonia and Kurland, 1768-1915.'

A large part of his collection was auctioned at Cherrystone in May 2013 (lots 1564 and 1566). Engel wrote several articles e.g.. A brief review of Latvia's postal history. (article first appeared in STAMPS Nov. 26, 1966 as a column, and was republished in 1995 in Stamps, v252, no.n10, 1995 Sept 2, p12(1) (ISSN: 0038-9358).
