--Naliju (d) Projet:Biologie marine 19 octobre 2009 à 16:47 (CEST)
- According to the museum it's a CAIMAN. --Zaqarbal (talk) 19:48, 19 October 2009 (UTC)
- But those ears make me doubt. I've written the two hypothesis. --Zaqarbal (talk) 20:20, 19 October 2009 (UTC)
- As described above by Naliju, some details appear coming from a coati: look at the shape of the tail, of the nose and see how the legs are attached to the body. Of course the label of the museum describes a caiman, but I think it's wrong.
- Such a mistake seems more usual than we could think. Specialists of pottery or archeology are not of zoology. See this page fr:Utilisateur:Naliju/Archeozoo for other ceramics causing doubts. Patrick.charpiat (talk) 20:07, 22 October 2009 (UTC)

OK. After looking at several pictures, I also think it's a coati, specially because of the ears. Maybe it was inspired by specimens like these:

---Anyway, better to have a coati in the bedroom! Regards, Patrick.charpiat (talk) 12:32, 23 October 2009 (UTC)
- Is not only a problem of ears ; the legs and feets, the tail, the neck, and the shape of the head are similars ; the presence of a snout is also rather demonstrative ; actuals reptiles have not snout. --Naliju (talk) 15:17, 23 October 2009 (UTC)
- You will notice too that the position of the ears, the snout, the eyes, and the mouth (which is circular and situated below the long snout) are similars in that of a coati.
