This is NOT Chondrodendron tomentosum

[edit]

I was adding to the Wikipedia page on Chondrodendron tomentosum and was delighted to find what purported to be 2 photos of the plant growing in the New York Botanic Garden - which I duly used to illustrate the page in question...however, when I came to check other images of Chondrodendron with Google picture search, I found that C. tomentosum looks entirely different : has simple cordate leaves, not the deeply-lobed leaves of the large ( Araceous ? ) liana in the photo. I also found another photo - taken apparently by the same photographer - showing a plant of the true C. tomentosum growing at the foot of the same big cut-leaved liana in the mislabelled photo. It seems he or she made an honest mistake, assuming the label bearing the name Chondrodendron tomentosum in the N.Y. Botanic gdn. referred to the large liana with the lobed leaves, not the small plant with the cordate leaves growing inconspicuously beside it. I've had similar problems in the past - it's often hard to match the correct label to the correct species among all the stems and foliage in the crowded glasshouses of a botanic garden. N.B. this is a situation that badly needs remedying, as I see that the authors of the Wikipedia pages on C. tomentosum in several languages have already used the mislabelled images ( in good faith ) believing them to show the plant about which they've been writing. PLEASE HELP. many thanks User : Flobbadob. Flobbadob (talk) 14:01, 8 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Philodendron squamiferum

[edit]

This is certainly not Chondrodendron tomentosum. It appears to be Philodendron squamiferum. Flobbadob (talk) 14:59, 8 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]
