I am Kim Novak's web designer, and I apologize to the users of this file from other countries for using English to write this. I will include Google translations below.

Ever since I began working with Kim nearly a year ago, she has told me that this is not a good picture of her and it upsets her daily that she sees it on the Google search results page, which draws from Wikipedia. She has chosen a picture she likes better with which to replace it, and we will make this request on each Wikipedia page where this image is found.

We would appreciate it if "Kim Novak Cannes Festival 2013.jpg" could be deleted so it will not be used elsewhere in the future and hope you would be so kind as to honor Ms. Novak's request. Thank you, Hannah West

Tack, Hannah West Hanasazi(talk)

Hello. I am the uploader (not the author). Normally I don't pay much attention to such requests, but given Ms Novak's age, gender, and status as a Hollywood legend, I am inclined to behave gentlemanly. So I'd have no particular regret if this picture, which is admittedly not very flattering and which does not appear on many pages anyway, was deleted. The administrators may do as they please. Thank you very much, JJ. I hope the administrators will remove this image promptly. I would prefer not to place a

Consent

A query has been raised regarding consent of identifiable persons:

It is not clear whether all identifiable subjects have consented to the publication of this image or video. If you created this media, and it was taken in public or you have the consent of the subjects (or parental consent for minors), please replace the template parameter 'query' with a more appropriate one from Template:Consent. If this is not rectified, the media may be discussed for deletion as a violation of Commons:Photos of identifiable people.

tag on it. Hanasazi (talk) 19:22, 7 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Take note that this picture was taken in France and that if I am not mistaken, under French law, a person making a public appearance in a professional context where she could expect to be photographed - and that was undoubtedly the case of Ms Novak at the Cannes film festival - cannot object to being photographed, unless the picture is actually defamatory. So I don't think the "query" tag is actually justified. Take note, also, that there are many much more unflattering pictures of Ms Novak on the internet and on google searches : so I don't think that this picture can be considered detrimental to her public image, and I don't think either that deleting this picture will actually benefit her in any way. In short, if the administrators think that there is a valid reason to delete this picture from commons, they may do it, I won't oppose it. If not, so be it. I don't want to interfere more than I already did. Also take note that since the picture has been removed from the wikipedia articles, it is probably bound to slowly disappear from google searches, so removing it may not be necessary. JJ Georges (talk) 20:07, 10 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hello JJ. Yes, it's true even in the States that no special permission is necessary when a person is photographed in a public place, however, people can refuse to consent for it to be published (which doesn't mean it won't be, but they can object). It's not that she feels that this image is detrimental, but she and her husband see it every day and it personally upsets them so much. Personally, she feels it's not just unattractive but makes her appear drunk (which she wasn't). I'm sure you must have heard about the terrible things people said about her after the 2014 Academy Awards. Being bipolar, and a committed visual artist, she's such a sensitive person that these things really send her into a tailspin, and she can be devastated for weeks. This image has been bothering her literally for years. And now I've worked for many hours trying to fix the situation for her and don't want to bill her for my time until the image is finally removed. I hope you will consider removing the image from the Wikimedia commons yourself just to make her happy. You have no idea what a difference it will make in her life. Thanks so much for considering it, Hannah Hanasazi (talk) 17:54, 22 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Didn't see this november 22 message. I still think the "query" tag is both useless and even silly : a movie star in Cannes expects to be photographed plus she is looking right at the photographer. So the "consent" argument seems out of place to me.
As for the presence of photos on commons : normally I oppose such requests but as I said I'll remain neutral in this case. However, I have removed the photo from the German page and now it is no longer the first result on google and I think it is bound to disappear from google searches. I hope this will resolve the problem. JJ Georges (talk) 10:57, 17 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
