Why the original flag should be used
[edit]The correct flag to use here is the old flag of the MLSTP independence movement and not the MLSTP-PSD flag that is in use now. The reasons are as follows:
- The original file was the original flag (the one somewhat similar to the national flag), the "upload a new version"-button is for improved versions or improved code, it should not be used to upload a different flag under the same file name.
- This file is in use on different Wikipedia pages where it represents the original flag, changing the file without changing the WP pages drastically changes the content of those pages.
- The categories on this file are based on the original flag, changing the file without changing the categories makes no sense.
- The copyright licence information on this file is based on the original flag, changing the file without changing the licence information makes no sense and is incorrect.
- The file is called Flag of MLSTP.svg, so it should contain the flag of the MLSTP indepence movement, not of the MLSTP-PSD political party (since 1990). If you want to upload a new flag, please do so at File:Flag of MLTSTP-PSD.svg or a similar filename.
Therefore I have again reverted back to the original file and will keep doing so unless someone convinces me that I'm wrong (which I am not). - FakirNL (talk) 23:23, 3 May 2014 (UTC)
- If you revert the file again I will ask that you be blocked from editing for edit warring. We do not need duplicate files, and the file you keep reverting to is identical to File:Flag of São Tomé and Príncipe.svg. Fry1989 eh? 00:25, 4 May 2014 (UTC)
- It is not a duplicate file! In the MLSTP-flag the three lanes are of equal height, so the black stars almost touch the green. In the Flag of Sao Tomé and Principe the lanes have proportions 2:3:2 so the yellow lane is wider. I'll admit the difference is small, but it's fundamental. Please upload the MLSTP-PSD-flag as a different file. - FakirNL (talk) 01:01, 4 May 2014 (UTC)
- If you're so right, why don't you have a source? Why have you not posted even one? Hallel did post a source when they changed the file. Fry1989 eh? 17:55, 4 May 2014 (UTC)
- The source is given as the source of the original upload. - FakirNL (talk) 18:38, 4 May 2014 (UTC)
- And the source given by Hallel when he changed the file doesn't even support his own change; probably why he reverted himself in the first place. - FakirNL (talk) 18:59, 4 May 2014 (UTC)

What do the sources say?
[edit]The source http://www.crwflags.com/fotw/Flags/st%7D.html#mlstp presented by User:Thommy9 in the original upload and the source http://www.crwflags.com/fotw/flags/st%7D.html presented by User:Hallel when he changed the flag into a different design (something he himself undid two months later) refer to the same page, but what does it say?
- "the flag of the MLSTP (said to be designed by its leader Manuel Pinto da Costa) was modified a little to create the new national flag (in 1974)"
- "The only difference is that the Liberation Movement flag had equal horizontal stripes."
So it claims twice that there is definitely a difference between the STP national flag and the MLSTP liberation flag as uploaded in this file. This is also seen in the svg-code where the MLSTP flag has three equal stripes and the STP national flag has stripes in the ratio 2:3:2.
What does it say about the alternate design as uploaded by Hallel and as favored by User:Fry1989? Nothing! Although there is an flag used by the political party MLSTP-PSD since 1990, this is design has a hand and a torch and is different from Hallels upload. From this I can only conclude that the original file is sourced and the alternate design is not. - FakirNL (talk) 01:37, 5 May 2014 (UTC)
