There was no Second Empire in Brazil. Brazil had a 68 years Imperial period, divided in two ruling terms by two different Emperors, intermediated by a brief regency term. Therefore, since the constitutional order was maintained, and no State disruption or government discontinuation ocurred, we can only consider the empire, a single , continous period.

Edit war

First point: "popular opinion does count" No it doesn't. This isn't a popularity show. If you want, you can head yourself to youtube and live with that flag there, I don't care, but this is Wikipedia, a place where people come looking for what is right, not what is wrong. Thus, you should not bend reality to appease to a group that feels something is prettier

• The colour of the COA doesn't match with the canvas colour;
• it depicts the imperial crown from the previous monarch, already dead, and even when going back to documents from his reign, the crown is shown differently than what it looks like on your version;
• the colour of "yours" crown's velvet is purple, not red, as goes the heraldic version;
• the wreaths aren't as thick as they should be;
• the most important document in the Brazilian imperial government, the Constitution of 1824, bore the shown COA, PLUS, have you ever taken a look at the crown of Pedro I. Maybe you need a digitalized version to understand it File:Réplica_gráfica_da_Coroa_de_D._Pedro_I.svg
• And lastly, the most common mistake, made only by those who really have never taken upon themselves to understand the vexylogy behind this flag, the ribbon, down below, is not supposed to be red. Not only popular opinion doesn't count, as thre is NO CORRECT HERALDRY. The 19th century Brazilian flag, including the coat of arms, have been displayed in several different ways even by the Brazilian government authority. Furthermore, this whole nonsense edit war have been affecting the heraldic style commonly used in wikipedia, as it is affecting royal house arms in many articles. Nothing matches anything. Adminship attention

Reverted revision
