Despite the image name, this is an F-84E, not an F-84G. All G models had the reinforced canopy. Presence of fuel vents on ventral rear fuselage indicates this is not an earlier B, C, or D. - Emt147 Burninate! 01:30, 21 May 2006 (UTC)
This photo is of F-84E-15-RE 49-2424, and appears to have been taken in Korea during the Korean War. Absence or presence of reinforced canopy is not a reliable method to identify Thunderjet series as the reinforced canopy was retrofitted to most operational F-84 aircraft including C, D, and E series.
- This is an E. There were three with an AF serial ending in 424, one E and two G's. What is visible on the tail looks more like "2424" than "10424" or "8424". The original site from which the picture was retrieved apparently switched pictures at some point without changing the caption, as the plane is plainly taking off, not sitting on an Edwards lakebed. The last statement above is incorrect to the extent that absence of a reinforced canopy (the case here) means the plane cannot be a G, all of which had the reinforced canopy.--Buckboard 09:39, 21 December 2006 (UTC)
- If I'm not mistaken, G models also had inlet suction relief doors on the lower part of the forward fuselage.172.190.116.209 (talk) 23:35, 4 June 2011 (UTC)
