Bird

[edit]

The bird in Aurangzeb's hand looks much more like a gyrfalcon than a hawk. Hawks are brown or black at the top. We know from Shah Jahan's chronicles that the Uzbek ruler gave Shah Jahan nine gyrfalcons. (Poor birds!) He will have obtained these arctic falcons from Russia, which had a long-standing trade in them. These birds have been diplomatic gifts for centuries. An arctic falcon qualifies Aurangzeb further as the emperor of India. Nobody else could own a gyrfalcon in India. --Curryfranke (talk) 20:57, 5 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
