De Dion-Bouton had never facilities in the USA. This vehicle was built by the De Dion-Bouton Motorette Company, organized in about 1899 by Fred C. Cocheu, James C. Church, P.H. Flynn, C.J. Field, and A.A. Halsey. The company was located at 37th street and Church Lane in Brooklyn (New York). Offered were a 2-seater "Brooklyn Motorette", this 4-seater Vis-à-vis "New York Motorette", and a closed 2-seater "Doctor's Brougham" with a false hood. All were exact duplicates of the French De Dion-Bouton Vis-à-vis Type D (1899-1900), built under licence. Prices started at $890, and went soon up to $1,500, which was a very stiff price. Neither the car nor the company lasted long, anyway. Obviously, quality problems led to the company faltering in January, 1902.
