Cette série de photographies représente le détail d'une coque de barque, sur une plage à marée basse, atteinte de biofouling.

Le biofouling est un phénomène apparaissant en milieu aqueux ou humide à la surface d’un objet immergé dans ce milieu. Ce phénomène s’explique par le développement de micro et/ou de macro-organismes à la surface de l’objet immergé. Dans l’environnement marin particulièrement, tous les substrats, vivants ou morts, naturels ou artificiels, sont rapidement colonisés par ces organismes présents naturellement dans l’eau de mer (végétaux ou animaux). On peut observer ici différentes espèces animales et végétales, telles que des moules, des balanes et des algues. Dans la navigation maritime, ce phénomène est un réel problème, car il provoque un ralentissement du moyen de transport et une dégradation du matériau.

Biofouling is a phenomenon that appears in an aqueous or humid environment on the surface of an object immersed in this environment. This phenomenon is explained by the development of micro and/or macro-organisms on the surface of the immersed object. In the marine environment in particular, all substrates, living or dead, natural or artificial, are quickly colonized by these organisms naturally present in seawater (plants or animals). Here we can observe different animal and plant species, such as mussels, barnacles and algae. In maritime navigation, this phenomenon is a real problem, because it causes a slowdown in the means of transport and a degradation of the material.
