Description

This mission is part of the European DOOR project, as part of a study on the impacts of methane on the climate and marine ecosystems.

The Black Sea is the largest pool of dissolved methane on the planet. It is the receptacle of several large rivers in Europe and Asia and all the organic matter they carry, not to mention that produced by human activities around it. All this organic matter settles to the bottom, sediments and decomposes, releasing methane over time.
