DescriptionZofiowka (Trochenbrod) Post Office, Poland.jpg |
English: Zofiówka in Polish (also known as Trochenbrod), the location of a Jewish shtetl (a small town) before World War II in the Wołyń Voivodeship of the Second Polish Republic, founded in 1835 initially as a farming colony. On the photograph, the Polish Post Office with postmistress Janina Lubińska in the doorway. Nazi Germany established a ghetto at Trochenbrod during the Holocaust, bringing in Jews from nearby villages and towns. The ghetto was liquidated in August and September 1942 in a series of massacres. The town was wiped of the face of Earth.
