Summary

[edit]
Description
English: When performing a Gram stain of Candida growth on Sabouraud Dextrose Agar (SDA), you would typically observe Gram-positive yeast cells. Here's what you might see in the Gram stain: Appearance of Candida Cells-Candida cells are typically oval to round in shape.

They are unicellular fungi and belong to the yeast group of fungi. Unlike bacterial cells, yeast cells are much larger in size, usually ranging from 3 to 8 micrometers in diameter.

Gram Staining-When you perform a Gram stain on Candida cells, they will usually appear Gram-positive. This means that they will retain the crystal violet stain (purple or violet) during the staining process. Cell Wall Characteristics-Candida cells, like other fungi, have a cell wall that contains chitin, which is a characteristic component of fungal cell walls. This chitinous cell wall is distinct from the peptidoglycan cell wall found in bacterial cells. Arrangement- Candida cells are typically seen as individual yeast cells under the microscope. They do not form chains or clusters like some bacteria.
