English: “The Two Guardsmen” oil painting by Thomas Hill. Hill first visited Yosemite in 1865 and later had a studio in Wawona, which you can still visit today. In 1903 Hill had the honor of meeting President Theodore Roosevelt during his visit to Yosemite with John Muir. More recently, Hill was honored by having one of his Yosemite paintings chosen as the backdrop for President Barack Obama’s Inaugural Luncheon.
