Description
English: Chinese characters in seal script. This standard written sample was engraved in a unified iron weight used on scales circa 221 BC, when the Qin dynasty unified China alongside its written styles and measures. There are other varieties of seal script, which were popular around 500 BC to 200 BC.

紀元前221年、中国統一を成し遂げた秦は、法治の確立や度量衡の統一の他、文字の統一を行った。この際、小篆が正式に統一書体として採用され、権力誇示に利用されるとともに、公的証明に広く使用された。

「廿六年詔権量銘」はこの時に度量衡の標準器の本体や証明用の銅板に刻まれた証明文で、やや字形に崩れが見られるが数少ない小篆の史料の１つである。なお、おもりの表面に刻まれているため、拓本は大きく弧を描いている。
中文（简体）：廿六年，皇帝尽并兼天下，诸侯黔首大安，立号为皇帝，乃诏丞相状、绾，法度量则不一谦疑者，皆明一之。
（始皇帝）26年（前221年），秦统一天下，各国臣民终于获得安定。采用“皇帝”尊号。于是诏令丞相（隗）状、（王）绾，规范法令和度量衡，凡是不统一或不明确的，都予以统一明确。
中文（繁體）：廿六年，皇帝盡并兼天下，諸侯黔首大安，立號為皇帝，乃詔丞相狀、綰，灋(法)度量則不壹歉疑者，皆明壹之。
