| Description |
A Wyoming Army National Guard UH-60 Black Hawk helicopter equipped with a 540-gallon bucket drops water on a fire at Camp Guernsey Joint Training Center's impact area. The North 27 Fire grew to just over 300 acres and was contained within the first of several firebreaks in the military training area's firebreak network system. The blaze, started during an Air Force training exercise, was the second Camp Guernsey fire personnel responded to August 23. A fire, of unknown origin was reported around 9 a.m. on the side of South Guernsey Road near the South Training Area. Camp Guernsey Fire Department as well as Guernsey Fire and the state's HeliTack helicopter equipped with a 108-gallon bucket held the blaze to 10 acres. The fire crew that was monitoring the training exercise at the impact area, was among those who responded to the south fire and was on that scene when the second fire started at approximately 10:40 a.m. Fifteen Camp Guernsey firefighting personnel, including full-time range control specialists worked on the ground to keep the fires at bay.
