Deutsch: Joachim II. ,Hector‘ (1505–1571, ab 1535 Kurfürst von Brandenburg). Der Brandenburgische Kurfürst Joachim II. war in erster Ehe mit Margarete von Sachsen verheiratet, mit der er sieben Kinder hatte. Aus der zweiten Ehe mit Prinzessin Hedwig von Polen gingen fünf Kinder hervor.
Obwohl der Vater Joachim I. die Söhne in seinem Testament zur Verteidigung des alten Glaubens verpflichtet hatte, trat Joachim II. 1539 zum lutherischen Glauben über und erließ bereits ein Jahr später eine, allerdings gemäßigte, neue Kirchenordnung. Sie leitete die Reformation in der Mark Brandenburg ein, behielt aber gleichzeitig viele Gebräuche der katholischen Kirche bei - ein schwieriger Balanceakt, der nicht nur Kaiser Karl V., sondern auch seinen polnischen Schwiegervater, König Sigismund I., beschwichtigen sollte. Berüchtigt wurde Joachim II. wegen seiner exzentrischen Lebensführung. Als begeisterter Jagdliebhaber setzte er 1542 den Grundstein für das Jagdschloss Grunewald. Um es vom nun zur repräsentativen Renaissanceanlage ausgebauten Berliner Schloss besser erreichen zu können, ließ er einen Knüppeldamm dorthin ziehen, den ,Kurfürstendamm‘. Der Kurfürst ließ zahlreiche Bauten errichten, darunter ab 1558 das Schloss Köpenick und ab 1559 die Spandauer Zitadelle. Als Joachim II. 1571 starb, hinterließ er einen Schuldenberg von über 2,5 Millionen Gulden. Gemälde von Christoph Wetzel (um 2000). |
