Summary
[edit]DescriptionWreck of MF509 - geograph.org.uk - 396900.jpg |
English: Wreck of MF509 I came upon this quite unexpectedly. This is the second crash site and memorial for a WW2 plane I am aware of on the Black Mountain (the other being 327972 )
The broken tubes and lattice work are the remains of Wellington # MF509 which crashed on the 20th November 1944. It was manned by a 6 strong crew of Canadians. The most prominent upright tube has had a small Canadian flag placed in its top. Far more details - including a mystery photo - are available in the following links: http://www.archives.mcgill.ca/public/exhibits/mcgillremembers/allisonstory.htm http://www.bombercrew.com/wales/walescrash.htm |
