Summary

[edit]
Artist
Wouterus Verschuur (1812-1874), painting in collection of nl:Het Spoorwegmuseum.
Description
English: Painting of a field with horses, a train and a signalman with flag. The semaphore is for exchanging messages between signal posts, not for giving orders to the train crew. This painting is dated shortly after 1845 (Asselberghs 1981). The church in the background is the St-Bavo church in Haarlem (The Netherlands)

Source/Photographer Self-made scan of a reproduction of the painting in: Marie-Anne Asselberghs, Daar komt de trein, Amsterdam: De Bezige Bij, 1981, p. 41

Scan is rather poor quality. Tried to improve the colors a bit to get them closer in appearance to the colors in the book, but didn't fully succeed.
