| Description |
A wood stork is seen along the trail in the Shark Valley area of Everglades National Park. The wood stork (mycteria americana) is a large, bald-headed wading bird that stands more than 3 feet (0.9 meters) tall with a 5 foot (1.5 meter) wing spread. (nps.gov) The "Tram Road" from the Shark Valley Visitor Center is a flat, paved path alongside a canal that goes through the sawgrass marsh. Plenty of birds and other wildlife were observable as we hiked down the path, including this wood stork standing in the marshlands. On this occasion we were taking a New Years Day hike through the Everglades while visiting South Florida. |
