We quote again from Mr. Walker,who, in Pugins Examples of Gothic Architecture^ gives so manybeautiful engravings of the different parts of the church, and also G 82 Wiltshire Notes and Qiieries. contributes the best account of the history of the rectory, as well asof the manor. He says:—In 1308 a chapel existed here, towhich 1 Walterus de Chaldefeld presented Wras. de Cumbe,the wall of which still remains, forming the body of the presentchurch—the west window having been an insertion, and the bellturret an addition of later date. The porch, also, which is peculiarand of elegant design, seems to have been added, together withthe present west doorway, about the time of Henry VII. Thos.Tropenell, who built the manor house, erected a beautiful chantrychapel to the south, and enclosed it with a rich stone screen, ofexcellent workmanship, adorn
