Summary
[edit]DescriptionWildlife at the canal-side picnic site - geograph.org.uk - 1762395.jpg |
English: Wildlife at the canal-side picnic site The small lay-by near the Nottingham Canal has a simple bench and access to the towpath. Three types of wildlife on view. The four mallards and the moorhen are easy enough to spot, but what's that on the right? There are three brown rats on view - one just behind the ducks and two more foraging near the hedge. I kept still for a while and eventually counted ten rats, some of which were about half the size of the ducks, who didn't pay any attention to them. Rats are very common at canal sites, but they are not often seen in numbers. I think these have become very bold at picking over the remains of duck food brought by visitors. |
