English: Widowhood practices are part of the funeral rites accorded the dead. These funeral rites are aimed at guaranteeing the admittance of the dead people into the abode of the ancestors.
In Igbo culture in Eastern Nigeria, during burial rites of her husband,Widows sit on a mattress with pillows and cushions around her or sit on a plain mat or even the bare ground. In the image above, the widow is seated on a bare floor.
