Summary
[edit]DescriptionWiangKumKam3.jpg |
English: -The word of “Gum Garm” is a colloquialism which comes from a written language “Kum Karm.” “Kum” means prevention and protection. “Karm” means country. So, Vieng Gum Garm means a city of prevention and protection of country or protection of a city.
-There is evidence that Pya Mang Rai conquered Lam Poon in B.E. 1835 (1292) and built Vieng Gum Garm in B.E. 1837 (1294) and built Chiang Mai in B.E. 1839 (1296). However, during the period that Chiang Mai was ruled by Myanmar (B.E. 2101-2317) (1558-1774) Ping River changed its flow way. When there was flooding it caused Vieng Gum Garm which was above the ground to become the city under the ground. After the Department of Fine Arts has been burrowing for decorating for the archeological purposes since B.E. 2527 they found sediment, sand and gravel about 1.50-2.00 meters covering this archaeological site. They have found the track of not less than 30 underground temples. It is the first underground historic city that was found in Thailand. It is a historic learning site in Chiang Mai. |
