Summary
[edit]DescriptionWhite City Media Village - geograph.org.uk - 158816.jpg |
English: White City Media Village This is the White City Media Village, mostly occupied by the BBC. To the left is the original BBC's White City building, built in 1990. To the right is the new BBC Media Centre, built and opened in 2004 along with the BBC Broadcast Centre, just appearing to the right of the picture. The new buildings are very modern in design, both being open plan in layout around two large internal atria. The Media Village was built on the site of the Franco-British exhibition of 1908 which featured many pearly white buildings, hence the name White City. On part of the exhibition site was erected The Great Stadium for the 1908 Olympic games - its running track ran roughly along the course now taken by the open plaza between the buildings and is commemorated by a display on the wall of one of the Broadcast Centre buildings and a line drawn on the floor where the running track's finishing line used to be. |
