Original published soure appears to be: Goode, George Brown, Fisheries and Fishery Industries of the United States: Section V, History and Methods of the Fisheries, v.2 Plate 187 Washington, DC : Government Printing Office, 1887 Illustration and citation are at [1]. NOAA has republished the entire treatise online at [2]. Bulletin of the United States Fish Commission, Volume 10 p 13 has a painting of the Mary and Helen with the same view and perspective as this drawing, probably derived from it. That publication [3] identifies the ship as the first Mary and Helen which was purchased by the US government and renamed USS Rodgers. Mary and Helen 2 was of very similar design but somewhat larger and is depicted in a 1884 photograph File:Mary and Helen 2 1884.JPG [4]. |
