Description
English: Westgate Modern Thorpeness was conceived by Glencairn Stuart Ogilvie in the early 20th century as a private holiday village. This is Westgate, a road off The Whinlands. The houses on the left, designed by Frederick Forbes Glennie, are all grade II listed - for listing particulars (in order away from the camera) see http://www.heritagegateway.org.uk/Gateway/Results_Single.aspx?uid=402845&resourceID=5, http://www.heritagegateway.org.uk/Gateway/Results_Single.aspx?uid=402846&resourceID=5 and http://www.heritagegateway.org.uk/Gateway/Results_Single.aspx?uid=403090&resourceID=5. Across the top of the road is Westbar, designed by William Gilmour Wilson, the tower of which was built to contain a water tank. it too is grade II listed - see http://www.heritagegateway.org.uk/Gateway/Results_Single.aspx?uid=403091&resourceID=5.
