C, the largest cityof the Kootenais, saw one immediately in frontof the postoffice there on an evening of lateApril. * * * In spite of the several petitions of fishermenand others interested in the fishing rights for along period existing on Sand Island, near themouth of the Columbia, and to which referencewas made in the May issue, the War Depart-ment recently opened bids for grants advertised. * * * The British Columbia Field Trials will thisyear be held at Ladner on the days of September21, 22 and 23. Entries for the Derby will closeon September 1, and for the All Age Stake onSeptember 15. There will also be a new class,which will be known as the British ColumbiaField Trials Championship. Major Taylor willbe requested to officiate, and fanciers are hop-ing that he will accept.

It will beknown as the Yakima reserves, and will in-clude all the timbered area between the MountRainier and the Washington forest reserves,making a continuous reservation across theState from north to south. The Yakima reservewill have an area of 2,600 miles. * * * The ladies championship of the Seattle GolfClub for 1905-6 was recently won by Miss EthelGarrett. In the finals she defeated Mrs. HenryCarstens, the score being 6 up and 4 to play.With the championship goes the Nannette Pas-chal trophy. * * * The ninth annual gathering of the WashingtonState Sportsmens Association at Wenatchee,May 18, 19, and 20, was largely attended, morethan two hundred members being present.
