Summary
[edit]DescriptionWensum Park Labyrinth - geograph.org.uk - 166480.jpg |
English: Wensum Park Labyrinth. Wensum Park is one of four around the city which were built as part of the city council's poverty relief scheme in the late 1920s, early 1930s. What makes them stand out is the park superintendent Captain Sandys-Winsch's modernist use of concrete in the pavilions and architecture. Wensum Park was restored as for the millennium celebrations when the labyrinth was created. Between the trees the River Wensum can be glimpsed and to the right, on an island in the river, are the remains of the outdoor Wensum baths which were bombed by the Luftwaffe during the Baedeker raids in April 1942. |
