Summary
[edit]DescriptionWebster Bodine House aka The Maples, Clarence, New York - 20201015.jpg |
English: The Maples, 6110 Salt Road, Clarence, New York, October 2020. Built in 1872, the house is a fine example of a vernacular iteration of the Italianate style adapted to the medium of rural residential architecture: segmental-arched windows, a low-pitched roof, and (more unusually) a small oculus window in the attic are all stylistic tropes that make their requisite appearance. Hidden behind the bushes in this photo is the front porch, a later addition that brings elements of the Craftsman style into the mix. Dwight Webster Bodine (1840-1898) was the original owner of the house and the 53 acres of farmland it once sat amidst, located directly adjacent to the Canandaigua and Niagara Falls Railroad (otherwise known as the "Peanut Line", part of the New York Central network). |
