SURFACE WATER SUPPLY, 1907-8. 389 PUGET SOUND DRAINAGE BASIN. DESCRIPTION. The drainage of the western slope of the Cascade Mountains inWashington is to Puget Sound. The most important streams are Nis-qually River, which drains the southern portion of Mount Rainier; Puy-allup River, which drains the northern and western portion of MountRainier; White River, which drains the northern and eastern portionof Mount Rainier; Green River, the canyon of which is occupied bythe Northern Pacific Railway; Cedar River, from which the city ofSeattle draws its water supply; Snoqualmie River; Skykomish River,whose canyon is occupied by the Great Northern Railway; Stillagau-mish River; and Skagit River, which drains the territory betweenMount Baker and the main summit of the Cascade Range. Comparatively little is known concerning the run-off and otherhydrographic characteristics of these streams.
