Summary

[edit]
Description
English: A row of compact commercial buildings once lining the south side of Washington Street between 1st Avenue and Occidental Avenue. From left to right the Monroe, Kline & Rosenberg and Young Buildings, all completed by the end of 1889. Due to rushed and shoddy construction the Kline & Rosenberg building collapsed not long after it was completed as detailed in this P-I article and had to be rebuilt. All 3 buuildings appear to have survived the 1949 earthquake with minimal damage but all fell victim to urban renewal and were gradually demolished from the late 1950s to mid 1960s. This is now the site of Occidental Park.
