DescriptionWarren's Black-Rat Blacking.png |
English: Advertising parody, satirical publication by William Hone aimed at English politician and judge Charles Warren (1764–1829). The point is that Warren had defected ("ratted") from the Whigs to the Tories, offered a judgeship; and Warren's Blacking, manufactured by Robert Warren, used a similar advertisement, which had also been engraved by George Cruikshank. (The rat wears a judge's wig, in the reflection in the boot.) |
