Summary
[edit]DescriptionWalworth 049.jpg |
English: Disused, Grade II listed, early 13th century chapel in lost settlement at North Farm, Walworth, County Durham, England, May 2010. It is on private property although a public footpath goes quite near it. It has been used as a barn for centuries. Showing east end of south wall interior, with trefoil-headed piscina and a possible aumbry. The piscina is interesting as it is unevenly carved, but because the chapel was abandoned centuries ago (possibly during the Reformation), the shape has not been tidied or corrected. Thus we can appreciate that this freehand carving was acceptable when the chapel was built. This is a very dark corner and all the photos of this corner are blurred, but as yet these are the only available free photos of the piscina. Please do not delete any photos of the piscina until a better photograph is uploaded. Thank you. |
