Summary
[edit]DescriptionWalberswick Station site - geograph.org.uk - 1758847.jpg |
English: Walberswick Station site Walberswick station site, my second visit this time in March. The vegetation being a lot lower so it is easier to find the various bits and pieces. The concrete slab being where the wooden building was situated. As this was a small 3ft Narrow gauge line the stations were not massive, it opened in 1879 and closed 50 years later. The road, war and changing fashions being its downfall.
Attempts to reopen in the 1940s sadly failed, if successful we would still have a 9 mile railway from Halesworth to Southwold. It would have likely been one of the best lines in the world for scenery and charm. A picture of it in 1926 here http://www.southwoldmuseum.org/Transport%20popups/Walberswick%20Station%20in%201926_popup.htm |
