Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Simplified version of File:DMA rubber.gif shown below.

Variation of the storage modulus (which characterizes the stiffness of a viscoelastic material), E', and loss factor, tangent delta, with temperature.
Material based on vulcanized polybutadienes (code: BR).
Composition: blend of solid and semi-liquid BR, fillers, vulcanization system, additives, etc.; sealant vulcanized for ~30 min at ~180 °C.
Technique used: DMA, tension-compression at constant frequency f = 1 Hz; stabilized temperature.
For the final product (cured), at 1 Hz: Tg ~15 °C and E' ~250 MPa at 23 °C.

This elastomeric sealant for automobiles is a good damping of vibrations around the ambient temperature at 1 Hz because the damping (or loss) factor is greater than 0.2 between 10 and 30 °C.
