English: View from the Market Hall From the shelter of the Market Hall, looking north across The Square to High Street, can be seen the original C16 timber-framed mansion of a wealthy wool merchant named Robert Owen, and beside it to the right the building of the Alliance Assurance Company, which united with the Sun Fire Office and the Shropshire and North Wales Fire Office. The building was replaced in 1895 and is now occupied by the Halifax Bank. |
