Summary
[edit]DescriptionView across the disused canal - geograph.org.uk - 1050977.jpg |
English: View across the disused canal. Short sections of boardwalk > 1050968 are trying - but not always succeeding - to bridge some of the swampiest sections of the footpath along the North Walsham & Dilham Canal where drains flow into the canal. Some of the trees growing into the adjoining wetland are covered with orange lichens.
A section of the Weaver's Way crosses at the end of Lock Road > https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/523315 - https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1050312. A path leads southwards from here, to a footbridge over the disused Honing lock > https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1050964 - in adjacent grid square to the north - and continuing alongside the canal and through St Villier's Fen until it reaches a pasture on Honing Common which it traverses. This path leads to Honing Road > https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/542058 further to the southwest. The North Walsham and Dilham Canal runs parallel to the River Ant from above Wayford Bridge > https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/798701 - https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/798747 to Antingham > https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/716931 - north of North Walsham > https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/617099. The canal was built to carry grain and flour to and from the mills by wherry. The now disused Honing lock > https://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1050960 is the first lock on the canal; a crump-type weir is utilising the fall of the navigation lock. |
