Young Cham girls showing themselves to be excellent salewomen for their coconut and banana waffles and delighting this French couple with their mastery of their sales pitch fluently in several languages. Their language and negotiation skills are among the best I've seen. When confronted with a tourist of a different language, they would immediately switch and negotiate, "you buy from me, 6 for $1, very cheap price, very good price! 3 for you, 3 for your friend. Good to give to your friend!" in any of several langages, sounding like a native. After switching to French, we asked them what other languages they spoke and they counted off: English, French, Spanish, Chinese, Vietnamese, and of course Cham. Damn. I'm not sure if or why waffles are traditionally Cham food, but they were tasty. |
