Video- mystery solved- this was where all that bubbling noise was coming from. (in my previous caption I had mentioned that I was distracted by bubbling sounds coming all the time as I was photographing the mud volcanoes, and wondering where all that bubbling was coming from). Getting to the mud volcanoes near Gobustan is a bit of a hike from Baku, and you have to drive through some burning trash piles, but it's worth it. Cold methane gas bubbles up through the black several-meter high hills and cones you can climb on and touch. Not far from the sea, plus a beautiful mud pool right next to it. A unique experience. (Note to my viewers on Facebook- this video did upload into the album but seem to have disappeared from the album now). (Gobustan, Azerbaijan, Sept. 2017) |
