Summary
[edit]DescriptionVictoria Pier, Hull - geograph.org.uk - 633365.jpg |
English: Victoria Pier, Hull, East Riding of Yorkshire, England. Looking west-southwest across the River Hull from "The Deep". A ferry began operating from this particular site in 1825 although there had been ferries between Hull and Lincolnshire as early as 1315. A pier was built parallel to the shore in 1847 and a floating pontoon added in 1877 which was replaced in the 1930s. The ferry service ended in June 1981 with the opening of the Humber Bridge, the southern tower of which is just visible in the photograph. |
